1. Denmark Street Guitars

Business hours:
- Monday-Saturday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM
- Sunday, 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Denmark Street Guitars, more popularly known today as “Hank’s Guitar Shop” is a must-visit for any guitar enthusiast. Located in London’s iconic Tin Pan Alley, this shop boasts an incredible selection of vintage and rare instruments.
The atmosphere is steeped in musical nostalgia, and browsing through their inventory feels like stepping into a museum dedicated to rock and roll. The staff are knowledgeable and passionate, often sharing stories about the instruments and their legendary origins.
However, the store’s popularity and focus on premium items mean prices are high, which might be a drawback for budget-conscious shoppers. Additionally, the small size of the shop can make it feel a bit crowded.
Incredible collection and friendly staff

What makes it stand out are the cool and creative vibes the store gives to the customers. Many customers have noted that the staff are always more than happy to help you find what you need or even recommend something new.
That said, the store can get quite crowded, especially during events, making browsing a bit of a challenge. Additionally, while it’s somewhat expected for a niche, independent store in the heart of London, some might find certain items a little pricey.
Impressive event organization and store design
“Visited here a couple of week ago to celebrate the release of Sam Tompkin’s debut album and I had the best experience. From the way the event was organised by staff to the design of the store itself, I felt at ease the entire time I was at Rough Trade East and was left with a very positive impression of the company.
The queue for the event was super long and went far around the side of the block (approx 300 people attended) but even so, it was well managed and kept in an orderly fashion whilst waiting to enter the venue.”

My favorite record store in London

3. Yamaha Music London

The layout is also spacious. It allows you to explore and try out the gear comfortably in their soundproof rooms.
It’s worth mentioning, though, that prices are on the higher side. While this is expected for premium Yamaha products, it might not be ideal for those on a tight budget.
Additionally, the high-end focus means the selection for entry-level gear can feel somewhat limited.
Highly recommended for musicians and music lovers
“I highly recommend this music store to other fellow musicians and even those who may not be necessarily wanting to make a purchase- just pop in and experience the wide array of instruments that they have on offer and spread the word of their excellence!”
- Sharfan Chowdhury, Google Review
The best music shop experience
“The best music shop I have had the pleasure of visiting. My son, who is 9, has been playing a cheap spanish guitar and wished to progress to an electric one. We had been advised that the Yamaha Pacifica is the best beginner electric. The guitar expert at the shop Larry took us through the types of Pacifica and then allowed my son to play the guitar in a booth. He got to use one of their excellent amps. We bought both! Larry was so nice and helpful. I would certainly recommend the store. My other son who plays the piano loved trying out the grand pianos”

With a wide range of guitars available, from beginner models to professional-grade instruments, Wunjo offers something for every player.
Another highlight is their competitive pricing, which often stands out compared to other shops on the iconic Denmark Street.
However, since Wunjo Guitars focuses primarily on string instruments and related accessories, you won’t find a broader range of music gear like keyboards or percussion instruments here.
Additionally, as a smaller store, their stock can occasionally run out quickly.
Encouraged to try before you buy
“Great visit to Wunjo, Tom B helped us choose an upgrade for my son, was quite happy to get him set up and plugged in, tried a couple of guitars. Not pushy, no hard sell, we went on to the other stores, but came back and got a great deal. Very happy with what we bought! All the staff were friendly and very knowledgeable.”
- David Bayliss, Google Review
The best guitar shop experience
“I had a great time visiting the many guitar shops on Denmark Street, but Wunjo stood apart in customer service. The staff was welcoming and encouraged you to try their impressive selection of guitars. I spotted a vintage Telecaster Deluxe that felt just right, but I was hesitant at first because I was traveling from the US. Tom W. (known as Tom #3, but #1 in my book) answered all my questions (and I had many) and made me feel at ease with my purchase. Patient and informative! Additionally, Gus made sure everything was perfect for shipment and stayed in touch with me until it was delivered. I am beyond happy. The best souvenir I could think of from the historic Denmark Street!”

5. Flashback Records

Address: 50 Essex Rd
Phone: +44 20 7354 9356
Business hours:
- Everyday, 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM

The pricing is fair, and with frequent sales, you’re bound to get great value for your money. Plus, they have multiple locations, making it convenient to visit.
Keep in mind, though, that while its vinyl selection is extensive, the stock of CDs and modern releases is limited. So, it might not be the best choice if you’re looking for more recent albums.
Add to this the sheer size of the collection, which can be a bit overwhelming for first-time visitors.
A must-visit for record collectors
“Great record shop with loads of vinyl and CD’s and not overpriced like some of the other shops I visited in London. Staff was also very friendly and helpful. Highly Recommended!!!.”
- Wally Salem, Google Review
Always leave with a great find
“I can’t think of a time when I’ve been into any of Flashback Records’ branches and not bought something. By far the best record shops in London, their grading is slightly on the cautious side (not many shops do this), their pricing is very fair and the customer service is superb, no matter whether you go to the Crouch End, Bethnal Green or Islington store, with pleasant people working there. Very highly recommended!”
